Joshua Cubista


Joshua Cubista is an experiential designer, facilitator, artist, and strategist working at the confluence of global futures and societal change. 

As a scholar-practitioner Joshua is a Transformative Research Scholar at the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute at the University of Guelph in Canada where he convenes the Toward Transformative Engagement Dialogue Sessions; a project that brings together community-scholar-practitioners in a collaborative exploration of the future of transformative research, scholarship, and community engaged practices. Joshua is a PhD candidate (ABD) in the Social Practice and Transformational Change PhD program in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences where his research explores the Praxis of Change and postanthropocentic practices for reimagining global pathways toward understanding, navigating, and shaping perennial and ubiquitous change

As a global citizen Joshua has traveled, lived, and worked in 30+ countries including Japan, Canada, U.S.A, Europe, Mexico, China, and Kazakhstan, including Eco-villages and Human Potential Education centers around the world. Throughout his 20 year career in the field and in academia, Joshua's project portfolio includes collaborations focused upon experiential university courses, global education futures, systems leadership capacity building, the development of national and international leadership and innovation networks, philanthropic strategies for complex change, and the future of governance. Joshua has held multiple executive roles such as chief strategist, executive director/CEO, and board member bringing a keen understanding of organizational and community dynamics, project management, and leadership capacity building to his strategic consulting and advisory practice.

Joshua holds a MSc. in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability from BTH in Sweden, and a B.A. in Human Development with a focus on Sustainable Community Development and Integral Psychology from Prescott College, and is a past fellow of the Institute For Sustainable Social Change, The Biophilia Foundation, the Academy For Systems Change, and the Sustainability Laboratory NYC and Earth University in Costa Rica. Joshua is the author of multiple research publications including Designing Labs For A Sustainable Future, Systems Change Education in an Innovation Context, Educational Ecosystems For Societal Transformation, and Prototyping Our Future; all of which feature research and practices for co-creating optimal responses to the complex opportunities and challenges of the 21st century and beyond.
